Kite safety

whether you are flying alone or in a busy park, it is good to remember kite safety:

Parks, beaches, and recreation fields can be crowded, with many different activities condensed into the same space. It is our responsibility as kite flyers to make sure we carry out our sport safely so that we continue to fly in these places.

Consideration of Others

  • Don't fly very close to or over roads where drivers could be distracted.
  • Don't fly noisy kites in crowded places or in sensitive areas.
  • Be careful not to scare animals, particularly horses with riders.
  • Clean up after yourself. Take all materials and rubbish home with you.
  • Be careful not to fly where you might scare nesting birds.
  • Watch out for other people who do not understand or are aware that kites can be dangerous.
  • Avoid other kites, kite lines and kite flyers.
  • Make sure you hold third part insurance.

Reducing the risk

  • Check your kites safety systems and lines before you fly your kite.
  • Do not fly near overhead power lines.
  • Do not fly in thunder Storms.
  • Do not fly over People
  • Do not fly over roads or railways
  • Be Aware of your flying area, careful of who, or what is behind you as well as in front of you.

If you are flying a traction/power kite for the first time find an experienced flier to help you, or have lesson with a kite school.

Beware of the limitations of your skills and strength and do not fly anything too large for the wind conditions, also try not to over stretch yourself with new complicated moves near other people and be aware of the power limitations of your kites.

Make sure kite anchors are correct for the ground, and are strong and secure to hold the kite.

In the event that your kite skills, strength or equipment fail's. Make sure that all of your kite safety systems are in working order.

Think safe and fly safe.
