Learning to power kite on land and with a kite board is a good starting point for those wishing to move on to kite surfing. The principles for flying the kites are the same. All kite surfing lessons begin on land with learning the controls of the kite before progressing to the water.

Power kiting on land enables you to gain all the initial kite flying skills and board skills required for controlling your kite in or out of the water. Therefore when you are ready to move on to the water the only skills you need to learn is to control your board in the water.

Power kiting on land is a good starting point for children and young people who wish to kitesurf as in the UK children are not allowed to kitesurf until the age of 14 yrs.

Power kiting has many different varieties to choose from - you will be spoiled for choice. Within each header there are different activates and skill sets to enjoy.

Kiting

Once you have gained your kite skills you can become more adventurist, you can start static jumping, the kite is used like a pendulum with the kite going in one direction and you running in the opposite direct you will get hoisted into the air. Skudding is using the kite to pull you along and sliding on your feet. Remember we provide kite lessons in poole!

Kite land boarding

This sport can be carried out on the beach or grassland. You stand on the board with your feet in bindings which are attached to the board and use the kite as a means of traction to pull you alone, you can cruise along taking it easy or progress to Freestyle tricks. Like jumps, grabs or inverts. We can teach you how to kite board.

Kite bugging

This is similar to kite land boarding, you sit in a buggy which has one wheel at the front which you steer with your feet and two fixed wheels behind the seat which is about 150mm from the ground and you use the kite to pull you alone. You can just cruise alone or buggy race against other pilots, or carry out free style tricks which can be either surface tricks like spins power slide or on two wheels, or air bourn tricks like rotation. Learn how to kite buggy.

Kite buggy on ice

This is similar to kite bugging but the wheels are replaced with skis or blades and the kite is used to pull you alone on either ice or snow.

Kite skating

Sometimes referred to as Kiteblading, is a land based sport using kites to propel riders of inline skates or off-road skates at speeds up to 60+mph across parking or beaches, grassy fields, Typically used in rough terrain, kite skates use large pneumatic tires (8 to 12 inch diameter). Four-line, steerable parafoil kites are used as the power source.

Kite dirtsurfer

Composed of an aircraft aluminum tube frame, a laminate or composite deck and two 20in or 16in diameter BMX style bicycle wheels. Foot straps are (optionally) attached to the deck to give more control to the rider. The board is unique in that it incorporates a patented steering geometry where the front wheel pivots from a point in front of and below the axle of the wheel, via the 'Swingarm'. Dirtsurfing with a kite and is performed on flat open spaces such as beaches or fields. Utilizing the wind, riders can achieve incredible air time and perform tricks that would otherwise require a massive ramp. It is even possible to ride uphill with sufficient wind. Unlike powerkiting with a mountain board, the Dirtsurfer is unidirectional; that is, it only goes one direction.

Snowkiting

This winter boardsport, combining the airfoil and techniques used in kitesurfing, with the footgear and gliding surface used in snowboarding. Either a snowboard or skis can be used. In the early days of snowkiting, foil kites were the most common type; nowadays some kitesurfers use their water gear such as LEI Snowkiting differs from other alpine sports, in that it is possible for the snowier to travel uphill when the wind is blowing in the right direction. Like kitesurfing, snowkiting can be very hazardous, and should be practiced with care.
